The following eighteen-page study guide contains comprehension questions to guide students through JRR Tolkien's fantasy novel "The Hobbit." Each chapter also includes a journal question that activates a student's prior knowledge or is a reader response question to a character, plot, or thematic connection in that chapter. The comprehension questions vary in difficulty and are NOT simply on plot. Other assessed literary concepts in the study guide are character archetypes, color symbolism, direct vs. indirect characterization, figurative language, genre, imagery, proverbs, rhyme scheme, setting, stanza, and themes.
The packet can be used as a formative assessment to prepare students for the summative assessment of a test, which is also available as a separate purchase.
