This lesson is meant to accompany Elie Wiesel's Night. This is a group project (but could be modified according to student/teacher needs) where students focus on a particular character throughout the memoir. Their job is to get to know this character as much as possible as they read Night, and then conduct extension research upon completion of the novel. The end goal is for them to create a presentation and write a narrative about what they think that person's life was like BEFORE the Holocaust. In some cases, they will find limited information about their character. When limited information is available, students are to use context clues and research to inference details about what they think life was like for that person. This lesson focuses on close reading skills, writing skills, inference, technology, and speaking/listening skills. The duration of this assignment is dependent upon the length of time you will be reading and studying Night.
