I like to use music with my health curriculum. It is a different way to view some of the topics we discuss in the health class. Music is every generation’s poetry. A music video is someone’s interpretation of that poetry. In The House That Built Me lesson, the students have an opportunity to view and analyze the lyrics of this song and determine why a young successful woman feels a need to go back to her childhood home to remember her happiness and why she was happy then.

Students will learn how family history can impact personal health, and be able to describe how a family’s values and behaviors shape who they are and influence their decisions.
Students will learn this by viewing and analyzing the lyrics of Amanda Lambert’s song “The House that Built Me”.
Students will be assessed by their written analysis and participation in the class discussion
