This is a lesson plan bundle that goes along with the novel "The Hundred Dresses". This bundle includes everything you need to be ready to teach this novel! All you need to add are your students in the classroom and you'll be ready to go!
You will be receiving a vocabulary organizer to introduce your vocabulary words. You will also be receiving vocabulary skit cards, word wall cards, and a quiz to test your students' retention of the vocabulary. An anticipation guide is included for the beginning of the unit as well. A note-taking journal has been included to engage your students throughout the daily reading assignments. This will also provide your students a way to record their writings for the contrast chart and quickwrites that are included as well! A link is provided for a visualization power point as well. Directions and cut outs are included for a foldable about point of view.
A silhouette activity, characterization, theme, inferencing chart, and test prep questions have been included as well. A link for your students has been included to allow them to create a doll book report based upon one of the main characters.
Finally, a link has been provided for an activity for the book "You are Special" by Max Lucado. This is a great companion book for this novel because both stories deal with bullying and how to treat others. After completing the paper doll activity with this book students will be asked to write an opinion piece based upon what they have learned from both literature pieces.
This is a great novel to teach. It is full of rich vocabulary and is an excellent book to start the year off. It touches on how to treat others and lets the students see the effects of teasing in a way that will leave a lasting impression on them. I always teach this novel the first week of school. It is a great way to get my students acclimated to my expectations when we read a novel. The Hundred Dresses is also a short book that can be completed in a week which also lends itself to a great book to teach procedures and expectations. Thank you for considering this unit! You will not be disappointed!
