This packet was created to be used with the novel The Hundred Dresses written by Eleanor Estes and illustrated by Louis Slobodkin. It focuses on the skills of sequencing events in a story and summarizing what has been read.
This packet begins with an introduction to the book. Then, for each chapter, students put key events in sequential order and then write a summary of what happened in that chapter. The sequenced events provide a scaffold for students who need support identifying the key ideas for their summary but are general enough to allow students to demonstrate their understanding by adding details to their summary.
This packet is meant for individual classroom use.
