Let your students compete in their own fun version of the Hunger Games! This is a fun set of classroom Hunger Games challenges that take 6-7 weeks to complete. On the first Friday, your students will be reaped and divided into districts. Mentors and sponsors will be identified. Then, there is a challenge each Friday while students are reading the book (6 challenges total). There is also an ongoing “food drive” challenge to help students be active in philanthropy. The challenges are meant to be fun, encourage teamwork and motivate students. During the week, students earn tickets that can be used in the Hunger Games challenge each Friday. Tickets can be earned by turning in homework, correctly answering questions, participating in class….it is amazing how much students will do to earn a ticket! Students complete the challenges on Friday, and earn points for their districts. At the end of the Hunger Games, the district with the most points will receive a prize. I gave my winning district a feast that included pizza and desserts. Because of the cost related to the supplies needed for the activities, I would recommend collecting a few dollars from each student.
