This activity will be fun, intrigue your students, get them up and moving around, and have them solving problems at the same time. It can be used as a review game or just a way to spice up usual practice in a lesson. The students will be given the beginning of a story about The Starvation Games, which is based off the popular Hunger Games. In the beginning of class they will be given the first paragraph of the story along with a question. They will read the story and solve the problem which will lead them to the next paragraph and problem. Along the way they will be given choices as to how they want to proceed through the story so they can identify as closely as possible to their character. As the story reaches the climax the students work harder to complete the questions to see what happens next.
This download includes the story and directions about how to set up and carry out the lesson. It does not include the problems because this idea can be applied to almost any topic or subject! I have found that it works very well with any math topic.
