This essay fits with our curriculum study of the hero unit, specifically epics, epic heroes, the hero's journey. The essential question has students use the Hunger Games Film (or novel) to evaluate the cultural influence upon the text. CCSS Indicators for 9-10 are RL 10.6, 10.7. The short essay, which could be extended to a longer analysis, asks students to choose one of two options. Option one deals with cultural values and the second deals with cultural fears, as represented through the film.
