Product Description
We often want to cover a novel and show our students the movie, but it is difficult to find time to do both. Additionally, we have reticent students who are sure that we are trying to torture them by reading novels and wonder why we don’t just skip to the movie. We also have students who have trouble visualizing the action as it plays out in a book, thus impeding their comprehension. Finally, despite these issues, we are tasked with helping students become critical thinkers. This can all be overwhelming and can cause us to stop using novels in the classroom, but there’s a solution!

I have created this lesson plan due to the aforementioned issues. This plan, which is the perfect add-on to your already existing resources, provides you with a way to watch a portion of The Hunger Games movie and then read/listen to a portion of the text without losing any meaning of the story. It drastically reduces the amount of time you would spend covering the novel and then watching the movie. It also grabs the attention of reluctant readers and has them eager for more, helps students learn to “see the movie in their head” as they read, and uses the shared inquiry process to develop critical thinking. You will be amazed at your students’ responses to this style of teaching.
Here’s what’s included in my plan:
1. An explanation of the shared inquiry process
2. A writing page for students to use during the shared inquiry process
3. A pre-reading question for each set (group of 2) of chapters
4. What to read/watch/listen to in order to maintain the integrity of the plot
5. A side-by-side overview of the book and the movie
6.Questions for shared inquiry
