This informational text gives students exposure to a type of informational text that sometimes finds itself of state testing but is sometimes overlooked by teachers - speeches! This text is a transcript of a passionate speech former president Barack Obama gave to high school students in 2009. In the speech, Obama chronicles some of the common struggles that many of our children face today such as poverty, gun violence, and lack of role models. While speaking of issues that many of our children face on a daily basis, Obama reminds students that education provides children with an avenue to escape their struggles and accomplish their dreams.
