In this activity, students will examine nonfiction text to determine some of the ways the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest used the cedar tree (Western redcedar). Then they will create construction paper redcedar trees and illustrate some of these important uses. Finally, students will reflect on the ways in which these uses demonstrate innovation on the part of the Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest.
