Product Description
This product contains fun resources to supplement the book “The Important Book” by Margaret Wise Brown!

The Important Book is a great model of three things:
Determining Importance
Main Idea and Details
Paragraph Organization

One of the best things about this book is how adaptable it is to make a class book! You can make an important book about any topic at all! Students can write one about themselves or each other or any science, social studies, or math topic. The possibilities are endless!

This product Includes:
Book Covers
There are 6 covers to choose from with different options for focus, border, and style!

Student Writing Pages
This file provides 12 great templates for writing about people or things. The templates include pronoun usage for “I,” “he,” “she,” “it,” “they,” and “we” with two different border options.

For a get to know you activity, have students interview each other or read their "Back to School Fandex"(check out this fun product at my store) and then from there, they have to determine the most important thing about their partner. Have partners introduce each other to the rest of the class! Take photos of kids to create a class book for the students to reference through the year.

Organizers
There are 6 organizers to choose from with different terms and layouts. These can be used as a response to reading or to plan their Important Thing page.
2 column - Important/Interesting
2 Column - Important/Not Important
2 Column - Important/Details
2 Column - Main Idea/Details

Determining Importance Activity
Use the cards to have students practice determining importance with one of the four familiar topics (school, backpacks, kitchens, and books). They can cut apart and sort onto any of the two column organizers. Then you can model or do guided practice turning those notes into a piece of writing using the Student Pages.

Interview Questions
Students can use these questions as a guide during the “Get to Know You” Important Book activity explained above.
