I used this activity with my third grade Spanish students to teach them about the Inca. The activity is in English, so it could also be used in a social studies class.
I took facts about the Inca civilization and wrote a fake newspaper for students to use to find information. The assignment also includes a chart with 8 categories. Students read the articles and ads and selected at least 1 fact they thought was cool for each category and write it in that box.
The categories are looks (clothing or physical appearance), religion, law & order (crimes, punishments, etc.), work (typical jobs), smarty pants (school or something the Inca did that was very smart), farms & food (agriculture), that's cool, the end (how the Inca society ended).
