This project is a fun, hands-on way to compare and contrast the differences between a plant cell and an animal cell. Assign students either the plant or animal cell, and have them create an edible (cake) representation of the cell. Students plan the type of candies they will use to represent each organelle.
A fun way to publish the student's work is to have them present to their own class or another class. Invite the principal to stop in and take a peak, and/or display in the hallway for a day or two (with lids of course!). Another option is to collaborate with another grade level and have the students work together to create their cell. In order to celebrate the hard work, you may allow your students to eat a bite or two of the "cells" in class!
