The Indian Removal Act and Trail of Tears - Webquest and Video Analysis with Key - this is a 12 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 29 questions based on two YouTube videos (including a Crash Course U.S. History clip) and an article/video from the History.com website.
Students will first be asked to watch a video introducing them to the Indian Removal Act. The harsh treatment the Native Americans received at the hands of Andrew Jackson, the Supreme Court's attempt to block the legislation, and the incredible death toll of the Trail of Tears are all examined. In the second video, Crash Course U.S. History: Jackson, students are directed to watch a cartoon which exemplifies Jackson's tyrannical treatment of the Native Americans and again, the staggering toll of the Trail of Tears. The History.com website provides an excellent historical background to the Indian Removal Act, as well as a more detailed account of the unfair treaty practices of the U.S. federal government.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
