The entertaining German folk tune known as "The Instrument Song" is a great way to get students singing on the first day/week of choir class! The violin, trumpet, clarinet, horn, and drum melodies are written as "lead sheets" with text and solfege letters (d, r, m, f, s, l, t, d) underneath. Achieve singing success on day one by teaching students one melody and having the teacher sing another. Increase complexity by learning and combining individual parts, integrating solfa and hand signs. Ultimately all five parts can be sung at once. Add percussion or beat-boxing to round out the vocal orchestra!
