This activity is excellent for kinesthetic, visual, and auditory learners who need to move about the classroom, see the information they are taking in, and hear it, as well. It is great for struggling readers who are more successful with the support of a group learning environment. Stations can be used for scaffolding learning and reviewing reading in preparation for an assessment, as well as many other activities. The activity is also incredibly easy to expand upon or decrease as time demands.
In Short Story Stations, teachers post 6 activities designed to take approximately 5 to 7 minutes each around the classroom. Students work in groups to complete each activity. In remaining class time, the teacher works with students to go over and discuss the information, filling in gaps and answering any unresolved questions. Teachers can trim stations or add stations as they see fit, or use the activity as-is.
