This PowerPoint presentation examines America's war in Iraq that began in 2003. It begins by examining why America went to war in Iraq. In doing so it covers actions taken by Saddam Hussein following the Persian Gulf war, UN sanctions and weapons inspections, and the post 9/11 belief by the American government that Iraq possessed WMDs. It then briefly examines the military campaign and the fall of Hussein's government. It then explores America's efforts to bring a new, democratic government to Iraq, and the difficulties of achieving that goal. It concludes with America's formal ending of operations in Iraq, but leaves the door open to discuss the current situation. Some discussion of the Iran Iraq war and of Operation Desert Storm would be helpful in preparation for this presentation.
