: Students will be given a short article called The Jazz Age. They will read about how during the 1920s people danced to the beat of a new kind of music, and this was called jazz. Jazz captured the spirit of the era so well that the 1920s is often referred to as the Jazz age. Louis Armstrong was known as the best African American jazz musician. This is one composer that the class will be focusing on. They will be reading the lyrics of the song and see how they feel when they just read the words, and do not hear it. Then listening to his songs “What a Wonderful World”, and analyzing it. When they listen to the song, will be identifying the band instruments and their families, identifying adult vocal ranges, and identifying lighter/heavier vocal tone color. Then when they are all finished they will be comparing and contrasting the two forms, reading the lyrics and listening to the song, through a class discussion. They will be talking about what they see and hear when they first read the lyrics, compared to when they listen to the song.
