How did Upton Sinclair's work result in the creation of the FDA? Students uncover and demonstrate how this Progressive Muckraker's seminal book led to lasting federal laws and programs. Includes activities in which students close read a chapter from The Jungle and an opinion piece from The New York Times about the continuing relevance of Sinclair's expose. Also, students are prompted to create a political cartoon pertaining to The Jungle or current issues in the food industry utilizing common concepts used by yesterdays & today's leading cartoonists.
