This packet contains resources for teaching Michael Shaara’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, The Killer Angels. These materials were originally used in a gifted 8th grade class, and thus are appropriate for lower secondary students (8th-10th) as well as useful for older students. Many of these projects can also be applied to other novels, giving you more bang for your buck.
All of the projects and essay topics have guidelines, a brainstorming organizer, and a rubric. Although these products were originally designed for TKA, I have included versions that eliminate reference to the novel and leave them open for you to use with other texts or as stand-alone projects. Here’s an example of how that might work.
How to use the “Found Poetry” project in three preps:
*Use for 10th graders reading The Killer Angels
*Use for 9th grades reading To Kill a Mockingbird
*Use in a 12th grade Journalism class, based on non-fiction texts.
This is an easy way to get more bang for your buck!
