The Kissing Hand
Making Connections & Retelling
A great printable for capturing the child's handprint
This printable is a great way to capture the child’s handprint using paint. Once dried, place a red heart sticker on the handprint. Place on a piece of colored construction paper to add a finished look. Parents and children love this heartwarming artwork. Two templates are included so this can be used the first day of school or any day throughout the year.
This is a great book to practice the reading strategies “making connections” and “retelling” the story. While reading the story, ask children if the story makes them think of anything from their own lives. They may relate to the mother and child in the story. Let children know that they are making connections, and that good readers make connections to help understand the story. When they take their handprint home, they can ”retell” the story to their parents.
Hope you enjoy this as much as my students!
