The following two-page handout contains twenty quotes from Khaled Hosseini's novel "The Kite Runner" that are rich in figurative language, characterization, and/or plot. This mini-lesson and reading activity requires students to identify the quote's speaker and explain the subtext of what he or she means. If possible, students should also explain how the quote characterizes its speaker. If applicable, students should explain any literary devices employed by Hosseini, too (e.g. metaphors, symbols, etc.).
