Do you ever wish that you had a resource that involved all of the core informational text reading strategies within areas of science and/or socials studies? Look no further! The Largest Dinosaur: The ELA and Science Study Unit has done just that!
As educators, we know that comprehending informational text can be challenging for most students. This study provides multiple opportunities for your students to interact with informational text in a fun and concrete way. In addition, it provides the students a connection with the real world by them engaging in research through the use of technology!

The study involves a 2-Week Study of the largest known dinosaur, the Titanosaur.
The unit study is as follows:
Week 1

Days 1 & 2: Read, highlight and review vocabulary terms.

Day 3: Read and highlight the article with your class.
Preview and highlight the questions and activities.

Day 4: Answer questions # 1-6 with your class.
(Whole group, small groups or individually)

Day 5: Answer questions # 7-11 with your class.
(Whole group, small groups or individually)

Week 2

Day 1: Complete the Venn Diagram graphic organizer.
(Whole group, small groups or individually)


Days 2 &3: Complete the Brief Constructed Response Activity
(Whole group, small groups or individually)

Day 4 : Grade BCRs and provide feedback to students.
And/Or
Have students provide peer feedback using the
key as an exemplar.

Day 5: Unit Debriefing and Review

The study packet includes:
- Informational Text Articles.
- Common Core Aligned Comprehension Questions.
- Real World Internet Investigation Activities.
- Graphic Organizers
- Extensive Brief Constructed Responses based on Graphic Organizer notations.
