This comprehensive, multi-media inquiry unit connects the laws and policies regarding employment of “homosexuals” in government positions and its implications on society and historical perspective. Inclusion of this unit of inquiry is recommended when teaching The Red Scare (McCarthyism).
This unit includes background information, essential question, discussion questions, inquiry process guide (using primary and secondary sources), activity, intersection, extension lesson, connection to recent event, assessment, printable inquiry guide poster and access points in multiple disciplines.
Learning outcomes are:
1. Students will be able to make connections between this unit and the influence of government policy on society’s ideas about morality and privacy
