Included in this zip folder are 10 Power Point files. 4 files assist in the introduction of the Law of Sines and 6 are assignments. A brief description of each:
Intro #1 is the "story of SSA". The sequence of SSA is investigated revealing that 2 triangles can exist with given information in this sequence. It is 11 slides in length.
Intro #2 is a 21 slide file. The emphasis is the domain of x if it is an angle in a triangle. sine and cosine equations are solved as formative assessment questions. It is further emphasized that when the domain is (0,180) sine has 2 solutions.
Intro #3 is a 21 slide file. The emphasis is developing the formula for the law of sines. A non-right triangle is used by drawing the height and using the sine and substitution to derive the formula.
Intro #4 is 21 slides. It investigates the ambiguity of the Law of Sines. 2 formative assessment problems are investigated. 1 has a 2nd ambiguous triangle which is fully solved. The other does not have a 2nd ambiguous triangle and is fully solved as well.
Assignment A is a 15 question multiple choice file. Triangle logic is the emphasis. The logic applied here is:
1. The smallest side is opposite the smallest angle
2. The largest side is opposite the largest angle
3. The sum of the interior angles is 180
4. The 2 short sides have to add to be more than the long side
It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #1 is a 15 question multiple choice and short answer assignment. The emphasis is solving simple trig equations, recognizing given sequences SSS, SAS, AAS and SSA, and recognizing when the Law of Sines is used. It is on 1 page for easy printing.
Assignment #2 is like Assignment #1 but also requires students to identify the number of triangle(s) produced by SSA sequence and set up the Law of Sines. It is on 1 page for easy printing. This assignment can also be used at socrative.com and the socrative share number is included in the file.
Assignment #3 is free in the preview file.
Assignment #4 is like #3
Assignment #5 is like #3
