This set of PRINT AND TEACH resources include four RACES writing prompts and a set of comprehension questions (11 questions) for the Washington Irving short story, "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow".
The RACES prompts are placed in a graphic organizer which also includes suggested sentence starters. This offers scaffolding for the struggling writer. Additionally, the four prompts allow for the teacher to differentiate within the class. I assign a different prompt to different students based on their skill level. Since all the prompt have the same graphic organizer built in, there is not a glaring difference between the papers. This aids in making the struggling learner feel included and not "different". These prompts can also be used as essay questions on a test.
There are eleven comprehension questions that encompass all levels of Bloom's and knowledge levels. Question topics deal with setting, conflict, story details, quote analysis, symbolism, compare/contrast, and text evidence. These questions lead to great, whole-class literary discussion.
Finally, there is a twelve question, multiple choice quiz with answer key
