In this mini unit students discover who Washington Irving was, read a version of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, write a new chapter, and create a movie poster. For differentiation purposes, links to online audio versions of the story are included. After reading the story, students write a narrative piece in which they continue the story. As authors they decide what happened to Ichabod Crane, and tell his "day after" story. Then they pretend that Hollywood has picked up their chapter and are going to turn it into a movie. To introduce the movie, students create their own movie poster. A scoring rubric is also included as is a fun cooperative activity for students to further explore the story.
