Product Description

This is the perfect print-and-go companion to the Scholastic version of "The Legend of Sleepy Hollow," retold by Jane Mason! It's versatile and easy for students to complete on their own as a festive extension activity, in small literature circles with a teacher, or as a companion to a whole group read-aloud. ANSWER KEY INCLUDED... so don't hesitate to leave it for a sub! ;)

It covers each chapter individually, focusing on vocabulary and reading comprehension.

  • 6 different vocabulary activities are rotated so your students won't get tired of doing the same thing over and over again!
  • Vocabulary work focuses on kid-friendly synonyms and definitions that encourage students to use context clues to decipher new words from the text.
  • Comprehension questions include a mix of multiple choice, short answer, fill in the blank, matching, and true/false, and incorporate finding proof, making inferences, and supporting the student's own personal opinion.

Simple and engaging in a way that supports the story, and doesn't detract from the fun and spooky vibe your students are looking for in this book. It's a great way to bring an academic side to a festive activity!

* Two vocabulary activities require a device and app capable of scanning QR codes. If you don't have the capability to use QR codes in your classroom, I've included an alternative activity you can do, described at the end of the packet.

* Please note that this guide is specific to the Scholastic retelling of the story. It would not be an appropriate guide to the original short story.
