This Readers' Journal accompanies Tomie dePaola's "Legend of the Indian Paintbrush." The journal offers an in-depth exploration of important reading strategies. Topics include character traits, the setting and culture of the Great Plains, cause and effect, generating questions, answering comprehension questions, story vocabulary, compare/contrast, and an author study on Tomie dePaola.
Independent readers may move through this journal at their own pace, or this can be used for small guided reading groups and/or whole class instruction. The journal can also be broken up into separate activities as needed. All components are aligned with second and third grade ELA CC standards.
