This PowerPoint is an excellent means of introducing the Legislative Branch of the national government to students!
Beginning with the requirements for serving in the House and Senate, the PowerPoint guides students through an understanding of congressional districts, apportionment, and population trends (i.e.: why certain states are gaining representatives while others are losing). Students are able to view a map of the United States with each congressional district, and can discuss why districts are different sizes and different shapes. Finally, students are given a brief overview of gerrymandering.
The presentation includes slides pertaining to congressional districts in California, but these can easily be substiuted to fit your own needs.
The PowerPoint is saved using a Calibri font (which can be adjusted as needed) and using Word 97-2003. Each slide includes extensive custom animation.
