This reader is an informational text about a butterfly and its life cycle. The pages read as follows:
The butterfly lays an egg on a leaf.
A caterpillar hatches from an egg.
The caterpillar eats its own egg shell and the leaf it was laid on.
The caterpillar eats and eats and eats.
It grows so fast it sheds its skin.
It hangs upside down and curls up.
A hard shell forms around it. It is now a pupa or a chrysalis.
Inside, the pupa is turning into a butterfly. This is called metamorphosis.
The butterfly emerges from the chrysalis.
The butterfly opens its wings and flies to find food.
It drinks from a flower with its proboscis.
The butterfly lays a new egg on a leaf.
