There are lots of ‘reading schemes’ and ‘phonic schemes’ on the market. Each will argue their own relative merits very fiercely. It can be an extremely profitable business. My experience has been that when parents involve themselves in the ‘technical’ side of helping their child ‘read’ it can sometimes be counter productive. Often, what should be a rich, stimulating experience for the child becomes a source of stress and conflict.
This method is ideal for parents, family member, carers and older children to use with younger children or children who may be struggling for fluency with their reading.
Reading can be a stressful experience if a child is struggling.
Stress is something to be avoided at all costs and this simple but effective technique can be the answer.
