PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Students compare and contrast The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper and The Good Samaritan from the Bible. As they read, they fill out the character map. Students then complete a Venn diagram to compare and contrast the two stories. Finally, students write an essay to compare and contrast these stories.

Materials needed:
• The Little Engine that Could by Watty Piper
• The Bible or a storybook of The Good Samaritan

The story of The Good Samaritan may be found in the Bible in Luke 10:25-37.

Activity One: Read The Little Engine that Could. Fill out the character map as a class or individually.

Activity Two: Read The Good Samaritan as a class or individually and fill out the character map.

Activity Three: Complete the Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the two stories.

Activity Four: Write an essay, following the directions, comparing and contrasting the two stories.

Includes character map, Venn diagram, essay directions, rubric, and teacher helps.
