The Little Hummingbird is an exciting children's book- a revised edition of the award-winning Flight of the Hummingbird-is based on a South American indigenous story about a courageous hummingbird who defies fear and expectations in her attempt to save the forest from fire, retold by Michael Nicholl and illustrated by Yahgulanaas. A perfect story to use for Earth Day or to inspire confidence, responsibility and accountability.

This unit was created to support a single read-aloud book.

Within this unit there are 12 different activities using comprehension strategies such as: Problem and Solution, Connection and Visualization, Summarizing, Meaning, Compare and Contrast, Alternative Endings, Retell as a Comic and Real-World Connections PLUS a Reader's Theatre Script

No prep, reading response pages are designed to focused on each reading strategy identified above. Grades 1 to Grade 5 will have success using these response pages.
