QR Code Scavenger Hunts – Student Created and Used!
Use QR Codes to answer comprehension questions about stories!
Very engaging, interactive, and a great way to get primary kids using technology to learn! This is my first graders favorite way to answer questions about stories they have read.
This product was created by Robinson Elementary’s STLP team (Student Technology Leadership Program). My middle schoolers wanted to create scavenger hunts that incorporates technology with literacy skills. This set includes a scavenger hunt on 1 popular children’s book, The Little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything.
Once students have read or listened to the book, they will use Ipads loaded with a QR code reader app to scan and answer questions about the book. The questions can be placed around the room (or even school) for the students to find and scan. Students simply scan the QR code and up pops a question for them to answer on their recording sheet. Our goal is to help students learn to use technology at a young age while building literacy skills. This activity makes answering questions about a text much more fun and interactive. Students can work in teams to complete the task or individually. My STLP has used this during Literacy Nights and it was a success. We also like to have older kids come down to the primary grades to help with the scavenger hunts. The big kids read to the younger kids and then take them around on the hunt. It makes learning fun, interactive, and all students are engaged!
Questions may include the following literacy skills:
recall, story elements, sequencing, realism/fantasy, author’s purpose, compare/contrast, inferencing, making connections to the text, etc.
In order to do these hunts, all you will need is the book and tablets/Ipads loaded with a QR code reader free app.
Thank you for supporting our STLP project and team! My students would love to hear your feedback on their creations. Feedback will help the team know if this project was successful and if they made an impact on instruction.
