This assignment is designed for freshman (9th grade) Honors English students reading Antoine Saint-Exupery's The Little Prince. It is aligned to the common core 9th grade Reading Standards.

In the assignment, students are given:

  • 4 possible themes from The Little Prince
  • A quote from each chapter

Their task is to write a response with a topic sentence 1) identifying which theme the quote supports, and 2) elaborating on how the quote develops that theme.

Some questions require students to identify the symbolism in a quote, and explain how the symbol develops one of the themes.
