There are 9 pictures to use to introduce the book “The Little Red Hen,” by Lucinda McQueen. Show the pictures before reading to get the students thinking about the story and predicting what they think will happen in the story. Focus on characters, setting, and events of the story. Have students in groups of two or three so that they can easily discuss the pictures. While discuss, look at expression, focal point, gesture, clothing, setting, objects in the picture. After students have discussed each picture, have the students predict what they think will happen at the end of the story. Read the story. After reading, have students create a tableau that shows what happened at the end of the story.
