My younger students LOVE sessions that involve stories! Book companions are a great way to keep younger students engaged and motivated, all while targeting various skills.
The Little Red Hen - Speech and Language Book Companion has several different activities that work on common speech and language goals for younger students:
-"Wh" Comprehension Questions: targets "what, where, who" questions with choice of 2 depicted answers in flashcard form (6 questions of each type)
-"What...doing" Questions: targets grammar/syntax (noun + is + present progressive -ing) in flashcard form
-Phonemic Awareness Activities: targets rhyming, beginning sound, and ending sound identification in flashcard form
-Following Directions: targets one-step and two-step directions in flashcard form (some incorporating details from the story!)
-Reinforcement Games: matching/Go Fish cards that can act as a stand-alone activity or a social skills activity (turn-taking language) and an open-ended game board that can be combined with any of the above target skills
