This product is a short (2 columns on almost 2 full pages) script on THE LITTLE ROCK NINE. The script involves students in reading and reviewing information about the circumstances surrounding this historic event in the racial integration of schools in the southern United States. The script has 22 solo speaking parts, but a smaller group can easily perform it by having speakers double up on lines. There are also many parts for ALL so that teachers can use it with a whole class.
Reading and rehearsing the script introduces and reinforces information while increasing reading fluency and engaging students in a dramatic approach to learning history. Students enjoy creating and performing gestures and sound effects where indicated in the stage directions. And—because it is a script—they do not mind reading and re-reading the information. This Curriculum-Based Readers Theatre script is one of many I have created with students and teachers across the United States.
