The thirty-eight page literature unit I’ve created to accompany this book’s fourteen chapters introduces the reader to new vocabulary and encourages them to make predictions. After reading, students answer comprehension questions and tackle an extension activity designed to promote higher order thinking skills such as making inferences, understanding aphorisms, and making personal connections to the story. Opportunities for group discussion are sprinkled throughout the extension activities. An event ordering activity and a writing assignment that asks students to recall a time in their life when they acted bravely ends the unit. A complete answer key follows.
Examples of these pages are provided below. I think you’ll find my unit a complete and challenging accompaniment to this book. Happy teaching!
