This is the first activity in my Littlest Bits
unit. Use simple materials* to introduce using indirect evidence.
Students use what they hear and feel to figure out what's hidden in a container
. It's a great activity for team building, practicing collecting information, or introducing using indirect evidence as a scientist.
After the activity, students can read an essay
about using indirect evidence. It's been saved at two different reading levels, with two different image types (blackline and color), in two languages (English and Spanish), and recorded
for a student who might benefit from hearing the information.
A short assessment
is included. Students answer true-false questions and then describe the what would be heard or felt if other materials were put into the container.
This lesson can be part of a unit to meet NGSS 5-PS1-1♦.
