Product Description

This article discusses the science behind the Winter Solstice and also the traditions that have been celebrated for centuries in Europe and North America. You get the same article at three different levels, allowing for flexibility and easy differentiation. There are also vocabulary and comprehension activities, including an Integrating Information activity that extends students' understanding of the science behind the tradition.

Here's what you get:

1. A two page article about the Winter Solstice at three different levels (1100 - 1200 Lexile, 900 - 1000 Lexile, and 800 - 900 Lexile.) The levels are appropriate for most 4th and 5th graders.

2. Three vocabulary activities (Word Wonder, Dictionary Dive and Prefix Power).

3 Three comprehension activities (What's the Gist?, Text Dependent Questions and Integrating Information).

4. All the activities come with an Answer Key and/or Rubric to make grading simple!

There are suggested schedules and ideas for how to use each activity.
