Introduce a much-loved series to your second graders and review grammar along with the reading. Students read 10-20 Summary Strips and then work cooperatively in pairs to reorder the story chronologically.
Did the tree house spin, and then they read the ancient scroll?
Did they see the elephant before or after they saw the lions? Watch them go back to the text to reread to defend their choices!
After ordering the Summary Strips, students identify the simple past tense of regular and irregular verbs, categorize and records them on a worksheet.
Lastly, students can choose from among 20 Daily Language Review items based on the story to complete a R-E-A-D worksheet. Students identify errors in capitalization, homophones, punctuation, possessive nouns, compound words, spelling, irregular and regular verb formation and more. Students who are ready for a challenge can complete all 20 items! Use the R-E-A-D worksheet as homework or in-class review. A great choice for a class with a range of reading levels.
The R-E-A-D worksheets can be used as an assessment tool for third and fourth graders who have read and enjoyed The Magic Tree House.
After your students have read Books 1 - 12, they can complete the coordinating conjunction activity and practice choosing among AND, BUT and SO to create compound sentences.
