"The Magic in You" is about a boy who lives in a city by a trashy vacant lot. His mom makes him go out side to play and there he meets fairy, a very mad fairy. She is a flower and plant fairy who wanted to be in a beautiful garden-but is assigned a vacant lot. Together they find a way to create a community garden and the fairy learns that people have magic inside of them, that even kids can make a difference in their world. This story is written and illustrated by educator and ecology artist, Penelope Torribio.
Review by Suzanne Lummis, Director of the Los Angeles Poetry Festival and award-winning writer instructor of UCLA extension. "The Magic in You" delivers a magic both fanciful and practical, a contemporary fairy tale in an urban setting that encourages children to care for and invest in their surroundings and the earth itself. The illustrations, incorporating images of the author's grandchildren, grace the tale with shimmering, painterly impressions." This book is perfect for the study of community gardens and lessons on how children can make a difference in our world.
