While many teachers feel attached to 9/11 we are now encountering students who are far removed from this tragedy because they were not even born at this time. This worksheet with ask students to list character traits, story elements, and well as identify symbolism. This is an inspiring activity to use with your student to acknowledge Patriot Day.

Check out this feedback from teachers who have used this in their classroom:

  • My students were enthralled. They were silent and absolutely encouraged to do good. One student now wears a red bandanna himself. Thank you.
  • This is a great resource. I look forward to incorporating it into my classroom. It is a piece of history that is close to my heart since I was living in NYC when this happened.
  • This video and activity have stayed with my students long after we viewed it on September 11th. They continue to talk about the heroism of Welles Crowther. This was a wonderful activity that I plan to use with future classes.
  • I was absent on 9/11, so I had my sub do this with my students. Students were engaged and were still talking about the activity when I came back to school!
  • This is a great resource to go with a great story! I love doing this on 9/11, it helps shed a little hope on a horrible day!
