The March on Washington Webquest with Key- this is an 8 page document that contains a webquest and a completed teachers key for easy marking. It contains 14 questions from the history.com website.
Students will be asked to watch several videos which will provide a detailed retelling of the March on Washington in 1963. An article with a historical accounting of this historic civil rights march is also required reading before beginning the webquest. The originally planned 1941 march, the spread of the civil rights movement, the promotion of peace during the event, the performers and speakers present at the march (including Dr. King), and Dr. King's famous "I have a Dream" speech are all covered in this activity. Links provide students with video clips of sections of the speech, or the full 16 minute version. Dr. King's illusion to the Emancipation Proclamation in his speech and his hopes for the future are also explored.
This webquest can be easily used as an introduction to the topic, a study guide, or a quick and easy sub plan.
