This package contains a passage and questions that mimic an SAT Reading Passage. The length, formatting, and content align with standards. Along with a passage of approximately 700 words, there are 10 Reading questions testing Literal Comprehension, Vocabulary in Context, Purpose, Inference, Best Evidence (Paired and Single), and Tone. Additionally there is an answer key with explanations. Unlike my other packages this doesn't have a vocabulary list as I have gotten requests for materials that appear like official College Board products. Let me know if you would like a vocabulary list and an extended passage for further reading practice.
This passage is an excerpt from Stephen Leacock's Sunshine Sketches of the Little Town and contains the subtle humor found in 19th century passages. I find that students struggle to identify humor in old-fashioned writing and by exposing them to ideas of contrast, inference and exaggeration they can start to pick up the clues when faced with such passages in the future.
