United States Secretary of State George Marshall and his European Recovery Program is then introduced and the hopes he had for the program. The growth of Western Europe's economies and the refusal of the Soviet Union and its satellites to participate are covered as is the enormous benefits the Marshall Plan had for Western Europe. Following the video, students will proceed to an online historical website and read an article about the Marshall Plan. The article will go into greater detail about the aid offered to Europe, the benefits to the American economy, and the containment of communism. The article also covers the costs of the Marshall Plan and the European nations which benefited the most from the plan.
