After reading "The Masque of the Red Death" by Edgar Allan Poe, one can use this great activity to promote higher level thinking! This activity specifically involves the seven rooms and the colors of each room. The students have to create their own representation of each stage of life based off the color and its meaning. They then have to write 2-3 sentences explaining what their picture is and how it represents that stage of life. It is in a graphic organizer format. I give students about a period and a half to do this activity. My students loved doing this especially because it allowed them to be creative!
